The Central government on January 17 cleared the appointment of two additional judges of the Gauhati High Court as permanent judges..Justice Kardak Ete and Justice Mridul Kumar Kalita have been made permanent High Court judges. "In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri Justices (i) Kardak Ete and (ii) Mridul Kumar Kalita, Additional Judges of the Gauhati High Court, to be Judges of that High Court with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices," reads the notification.The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended that these judges be confirmed as permanent High Court judges on January 7. .The Gauhati High Court is presently functioning with 24 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 30 judges. .[Read Notification]
