On Thursday 24 August, over 200 members of Delhi’s vast and active legal fraternity gathered at Meejaz Fine Dining and Bar for Vahura Lawyers’ Night (VLN). Unsurprisingly for the capital, the event witnessed representation from a cross-section of the industry: litigators, firm lawyers, in-house counsel, policy professionals, entrepreneurs, and academia.

Given that it was the first VLN gathering in Delhi after the pandemic, the night saw many happy reunions and rekindled connections. Several attendees had signed up after hearing about the success of the Bengaluru event held on 13 July and many confirmed that the event lived up to its billing.

Organised by Vahura, the premier legal & governance talent search and strategy consulting firm in India, VLN is an annual multi-city gathering meant to creatively catalyse the advancement of the legal profession and to discuss the shaping of a new generation of lawyers. At VLN Delhi, the general mood was euphoric, considering it was the rare occasion when legal professionals could come together in a convivial and relaxed environment without a specific agenda.

“It was a refreshing event!” said Priya Sreenivasa, Policy Lead at WhatsApp India, “I cannot underscore how important it is for all of us to have a strong and integral sense of being in a community,” she added.

Siddharth Srivastava, Partner at Khaitan and Co, said he cherished the opportunity to “meet old friends and make new ones.”

Another attendee, Varun Jain, CEO of Singhania & Partners LLP, said that he had an “outstanding experience” as the event “offered valuable insights into current industry trends while facilitating connections with clients, colleagues and longtime friends.”

Aafreen Collaco, Assistant Professor of Law, BITS Law School, Mumbai, stressed on the importance of events like VLN in bridging the industry-academia gap.

“Engaging with diverse legal minds, sharing insights, and building relationships for future endeavours was invigorating,” she said.

Attendees included representatives from Increasing Diversity, Increasing Access (IDIA), an initiative that identifies underprivileged students with an aptitude for law and trains them for law school entrance exams. Vahura is the official mentorship partner of IDIA.

Now, the pressure is on the organisers to deliver a similar night of fun and interaction in the financial capital of Mumbai.

“In a world full of seminars, webinars and workshops, VLN offers an opportunity for legal professionals to come together without a specific objective,” said Rishabh Chopra, Partner at Vahura.

“We’re heartened by all the genuine interactions that have taken place in the Bengaluru and Delhi editions, and we’re excited to engage with the legal community in Mumbai, a city which always puts its best foot forward for events like these,” Chopra added.

The Mumbai edition of VLN will take place on Thursday, 14 September at PLUM (Lord of the Drinks) in Worli’s Utopia City. Entry starts at 8pm. Registrations for the event are now open, with Vahura extending an early bird offer until 3 September.
