Bar & Bench

Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (HNLU) is set to host a one-day International Conference on the emerging jurisprudence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) - The Socio-Legal Impact on September 20, 2025.

With the advent of AI and integration of it in legal processes, there is a profound influence of programmers and developers wielding and shaping the digital-legal world.

This brings the need for an accountability akin to traditional legal systems, in regard to privacy, security, and fairness, to ensure responsible coding practices.

The conference will showcase the prowess of AI along with initiating dialogue on the development of regulatory frameworks and ethical guidelines essential to responsible deployment and equitable integration of AI in legal contexts.

The international conference themed 'Artificial Intelligence (AI) Jurisprudence: Navigating the Nexus of Law and Technology' will be hosted by the Centre for Internet Governance and Artificial Intelligence (CIGAI), this conference brings together leading experts, policymakers, legal practitioners, academics, and technologists to discuss and address the critical legal and ethical issues posed by the integration of AI into society.

Objectives of the Conference

  • To critically examine the transformative impact of AI on legal processes — spanning from predictive analytics in litigation strategy to AI-assisted legal research and the integration of automated decision-making within judicial systems.

  • To assess the evolution of regulatory frameworks and ethical standards necessary for governing AI applications, with a focus on upholding fundamental human rights and ensuring adherence to established legal norms.

  • To interrogate questions of liability and accountability arising from the use of AI, particularly the complexities involved in attributing responsibility when autonomous systems malfunction or cause harm.

  • To analyse the implications of AI for privacy and data protection, and to deliberate on legal safeguards that can effectively protect personal information amidst the realities of big data and machine learning.

  • To explore the impact of AI on intellectual property regimes, addressing emerging debates around authorship, ownership, and the legal recognition of AI- generated works.

  • To reflect on the potential of AI to broaden access to justice by lowering costs and increasing availability of legal services, while also examining the risks of algorithmic bias and its consequences for vulnerable and marginalized groups.
