An e-Sanad portal, a digital platform that facilitates the online verification, attestation and apostille of documents by India's Ministry of External Affairs, was recently launched at the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Punjab, on April 22.

The e-Sanad is a public-centric portal that works to simplify the processes of verifying documents by Document Issuing Authorities (DIAs), first-level attestation by concerned State government departments and final attestation/ apostille by the Consular, Passport, Visa (CPV) Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

The existing manual system is a time-consuming process, since it involves making personal visits by applicants to the DIAs, the concerned State government departments and the CPV Division.

To address this, the MEA e-Sanad would provide a faceless, cashless, and paperless service to the applicants for the attestation/ apostille of all types of personal and educational documents/ transcripts.

In the educational category of documents, RGNUL will be the fourth educational institute in Punjab to onboard e-Sanad facility for the welfare of its students.

The launch ceremony at RGNUL saw the presence of Sanyam Aggarwal (IAS), who serves as the Director of the Department of Higher Education (DHE), government of Punjab; State Informatics Officer, Punjab, Vivek Sharma; Senior Director (IT) National Informatics Centre (NIC), Raj Kumar Tickoo; and Technical Director, NIC, Punjab, Kirti Mahajan.

A workshop was also conducted by Kirti Mahajan to impart training on the working of the platform to the examination and Information Technology (IT) wing of RGNUL.

Senior faculty members of RGNUL and Vice Chancellor, Prof (Dr) Jai S Singh were present for the event as well.
