Law Centre II, Delhi University adjudged runners up in the 6th National Moot Competition, 2022

Law Centre II of Delhi University was adjudged runners up in the 6th National Moot Court Competition organized by the Moot Court Society of Law College Dehradun, Faculty of Uttaranchal University.

The competition was held physically between on 7 - 8 May 2022.

The team representing Law Centre comprised of Sakshi Dave, Samriddhy Jindal, and Rishabh Agarwal.

Rishabh Agarwal also won the "Best Researcher Award".

The competition was held physically on the Law College campus in Dehradun. The inaugural ceremony was graced by the presence of Justice L Nageswara Rao, Judge, Supreme Court of India.

Speaking to the Campus Ambassador Raunaq Bali, a team member shared what the moot proposition was.

It was a moot problem based on the premise of The Constitution of India, 1950, The Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and other related laws. The issues made out in the problem were on the determination of the constitutionality of certain laws relating to offences of illegal drugs and substances namely the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 and the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949.

Broadly, these issues were:

1. Constitutionality of the punishment prescribed under the NDPS Act.

2. Constitutionality of S. 35 (presumption of culpable mental state) and S. 37 (provision for bail) of the NDPS Act.

3. Constitutionality of the Ss. 65(b), 65 ( e ) and 65(g) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949.”
