Dr Rajendra Prasad National Law University (RPNLU), Prayagraj has launched Sankalp 51-A@ Mahakumbh, aimed at providing legal aid and civic assistance to pilgrims attending the Mahakumbh.

The project operates under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Senior Prof (Dr) Usha Tandon and is supported by faculty members. The initiative is supported by the Allahabad High Court's Chief Justice Arun Bhansali, and Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta.

Inspired by the constitutional ethos of Article 51-A which outlines fundamental duties, Sankalp 51-A dedicates itself to justice, community service, and humanitarian intervention.

The project aims to provide civic assistance apart from offering legal aid. The volunteers are offering support to individuals separated from their families, facilitating communication with authorities and assisting those who have suffered injuries during the event. While the project has reunited lost individuals with their families, no legal filings have been made to date.

Law students participating in this initiative contribute by assisting affected pilgrims under faculty supervision. They have received prior training as Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) through the State Legal Services Authority.

Sankalp 51-A is responsible for a range of activities like assisting illiterate pilgrims with documentation to coordinating with authorities for missing persons, raising awareness of legal rights, and operating a legal aid camp set up in Sector 24 of the Mahakumbh.

RPNLU plans to continue to support distressed pilgrims even after the Mahakumbh event has concluded.
