Two weeks ago, as many as nineteen students of Damodaram Sanjivayya National Law University (DSNLU), Visakhapatnam were suspended after an incident of violence took place on campus.
Students of the third, fourth and fifth year were involved in the incident, in which a few students were injured. Dr. Dayanand Murthy, Registrar at DSNLU told Bar & Bench that the students who were suspended on March 6 were now allowed to attend classes. He said,
“It was an ego issue between seniors and juniors. One junior stared at a senior, which resulted in one student slapping another. As a result, a group of 20-30 students came to blows.
A one-man judicial inquiry has taken place and the students were temporarily suspended. Now, the suspension has been revoked by an interim order, and the students are allowed to attend classes.”
Dr. Murthy also mentioned that the further course of action is under contemplation.
According to this TNIE report, the flare up between the juniors and the seniors originated last month, when the former made a complaint against the latter to the hostel warden. Since then, the report says, the seniors had been harassing the juniors, and the friction ultimately culminated in violence.
DSNLU had moved to their new campus in Sabbavaram on January 30 of this year.
