Maharashtra National Law University Mumbai is one of the premier National Law Universities in India. MNLU Mumbai was established in Maharashtra to impart advanced legal education and promote society-oriented research in legal studies for the advancement of the societal life of the people in the country.

Prof. Alexandrowicz has played a phenomenal role in the development of international law in India. In 1951 Prof. Alexandrowicz was appointed Professor of International and Constitutional Law at the University of Madras. He explored the history of international law in Asia and established the Indian Yearbook of International Affairs. This Memorial Lecture series is a befitting tribute to the extraordinary legal luminary, who is now largely forgotten by the modern-age scholars of International Law and History in India.

The first lecture of the series was delivered on by Dr. Carl Landauer on ‘C.H. Alexandrowicz, India, and the Excavation of International Law’. The second lecture was delivered by Prof. M. Sornarajah on ‘The Past and Present of Eurocentrism: The Role of CH Alexandrowicz in Resistance and Change in International Law’.

About the Speaker

Professor (Dr) David Armitage, MA, PhD, LittD, CorrFRSE, FRHistS, FAHA, is the Lloyd C. Blankfein Professor of History and former Chair of the Department of History and of the Committee on Degrees in Social Studies at Harvard University, where he teaches intellectual history and international history.

He is currently a Senior Scholar of the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies, an Affiliated Faculty Member at Harvard Law School, an Affiliated Professor in the Harvard Department of Government, an Honorary Fellow of St Catharine's College, Cambridge, an Honorary Professor of History at Queen's University Belfast and an Honorary Professor of History at the University of Sydney.

The other speakers of the event are Prof. (Dr.) Dilip Ukey, Vice Chancellor, MNLU Mumbai and Prof. Lakshmi Jambholkar, Honorary Professor Emeritus at NLU, Jodhpur and Honorary Professor at GNLU, Gandhinagar

The lecture shall be moderated by Adithya Variath and Amana Khare. Bar and Bench is the Media Partner for the Lecture Series.
