The Delhi High Court is functioning with a vacancy percentage of more than 51, the latest data available on the website of the Union Law Ministry revealed.
The sanctioned strength of Delhi High Court is 60. As on September 1, 2021, the High Court is functioning with 29 judges, a vacancy position of 31.
Another judge, Justice Jayant Nath will retire in November 2021 bringing down the working strength to 28.
The last appointments to the Delhi High Court was made in February 2021 when Justices Jasmeet Singh and Amit Bansal were made judges of the Court.
The last recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium for appointment of judges to the Delhi High Court was more than a year ago, on August 17, 2020, when the Collegium headed by then Chief Justice of India SA Bobde recommended six names.
The six persons recommended were Jasmeet Singh, Amit Bansal, Tara Vitasta Ganju, Anish Dayal, Amit Sharma, and Mini Pushkarna.
The Central government cleared only two of the six names after nearly six months – Singh and Bansal.
