[BREAKING] Central government clears appointment of six judicial officers as additional judges of Bombay High Court

The six judicial officers, which also include Bombay High Court Registrar General Mahendra Chandwani, were recommended for elevation on September 12 by the Supreme Court Collegium

The Central Government has cleared the appointment of six judicial officers as additional judges of the Bombay High Court.

A notification to this effect was published by the Department of Justice, of the Union Law Ministry on Thursday.

The following are the judicial officers who have been appointed:

  1. Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh

  2. Yanshivraj Gopichand Khobragade

  3. Mahendra Wadhumal Chandwani

  4. Abhay Sopanrao Waghwase

  5. Ravindra Madhusudan Joshi; and

  6. Vrushali @ Shubhangi Vijay Joshi

Chandwani is presently the Registrar General of the Bombay High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the names of the six persons at a meeting held on September 7. The Collegium had also recommended the names of two advocates for elevation; however, those names are yet to be cleared.

The Bombay High Court is presently functioning with 43 permanent and 18 additional judges.

With the six names now cleared by the Central government, the number of judges in Bombay High Court will rise to 67 judges. The sanctioned strength of the High Court is 94 judges.
