Central government clears appointment of 5 judicial officers as Allahabad High Court judges

The Allahabad High Court has been working with 80 judges as against its sanctioned strength of 160 judges.

The Central government on Monday cleared the appointment of five judicial officers as judges of the Allahabad High Court.

The judicial officers who have been appointed as judges are:

- Pramod Kumar Srivastava-II;

- Santosh Rai;

- Zafeer Ahmad;

- Abdul Shahid;

- Tej Pratap Tiwari.

The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended the names of Srivastava, Rai and Ahmad in July 2025 while the names of Shahid and Tiwari were recommended in April 2025.

Allahabad High Court has been working with 80 judges, as against a sanctioned strength of 160 judges.

On a related note, a plea is pending before the High Court seeking directions for urgent and time-bound filling of judicial vacancies at the High Court on concerns that more than 50 per cent of the judges' posts are vacant.
