The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of five advocates as judges of the Bombay High Court.
A resolution passed by the Collegium on Monday recommends Advocates Avinash G Gharote, NB Suryawanshi, Madhav Jamdar, Anil Kilor and Milind Narendra Jadhav as High Court judges. The Collegium resolved to recommend their names for elevation after consulting colleagues familiar with the affairs of the High Court, interaction with the nominees as well as material on record, including inputs from the Department of Justice.
Accordingly, the Collegium resolution states,
“In view of the above, the Collegium resolves to recommend that S/Shri (1) Avinash G. Gharote, (2) N.B. Suryawanshi, (3) Madhav Jamdar, (4) Anil Kilor, and (5) Milind Narendra Jadhav, Advocates be appointed as Judges of the Bombay High Court. Their inter se seniority be fixed as per the existing practice.”
In May last year, the names of these Advocates were recommended for elevation by the Bombay High Court collegium along with five other names. Of the remaining names, the Supreme Court Collegium has deferred consideration of the proposal to elevate Advocate Abhay Kumar Ahuja in order to examine certain information to be received from the Bombay High Court Chief Justice.
Four other names up for consideration were remitted back to the Bombay High Court having regard to all relevant factors and the material placed in the file. The names so remitted are those of Advocates Avinash S Deshmukh, Manjari Dhanesh Shah, JR Shah and Devidas Pangam.
