Collegium recommends 3 Addl. judges of Bombay High Court to be made permanent; Justice Abhay Ahuja granted fresh term as Addl. judge

However, another additional judge, Justice Pushpa Ganediwala whose tenure is set to expire in February 2022, has not received any extension or confirmation yet.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended that three additional judges of Bombay High Court be made permanent.

The three judges are:

- Madhav Jayajirao Jamdar;

- Amit Bhalchandra Borkar; and

- Shrikant Dattatray Kulkarni.

However, another additional judge Justice Abhay Ahuja was not made permanent. Instead, he has been given a fresh term of one year as additional judge.

The tenures of the three judges who have been granted extension were set to expire in January 2022.

The tenure of Justice Ahuja was set to expire in March, 2022.

With their confirmation as permanent judges or extension as Additional Judges, they will now continue in office.

One the recommendations are approved, Bombay High Court will have 52 permanent judges and 8 additional judges.

However, another additional judge, Justice Pushpa Ganediwala whose tenure is set to expire in February 2022, has not received any extension or confirmation yet.

Justice Ganediwala was the author of the controversial skin-to-skin judgment in Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act matter which had received a lot of flak with the Supreme Court eventually overturning the same.
