Collegium recommends four lawyers for elevation as judges of Punjab & Haryana HC

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended four lawyers for elevation as judges of the Punjab & Haryana High Court.

Manjari Nehru Kaul, Harsimran Singh Sethi, Arun Kumar Monga and Manoj Bajaj have been recommended for elevation by the Collegium of the Supreme Court’s three seniormost judges.

A total of eleven names were initially recommended by the High Court. After considering the material on record, the Collegium decided to defer the elevations of Sukant Gupta, Sanjay Vashisth, Jasdeep Singh Gill, Mansur Ali, Sunil Kumar Singh Panwar, Deepinder Singh Nalwa, and Harsh Bunger.

The resolution further states:

“The proposal in respect of S/Shri, Deepinder Singh Nalwa, and Harsh Bunger, Advocates would be taken up for consideration by the Collegium after some time.”

Should the Centre sign off on the elevation of the above mentioned four lawyers, the Punjab & Haryana High Court will have a working strength of 54 judges, as against a sanction strength of 85.
