The Supreme Court Collegium has resolved that one advocate and three judicial officers be elevated as judges of the Chhattisgarh High Court.

The four names recommended are advocate Parth Prateem Sahu and judicial officers Gautam Chouradia, Vimla Singh Kapoor and Rajani Dubey. 

Names of four advocates and three judicial officers were considered in total. Whereas all the three judicial officers went through, only one advocate made the cut.

Advocate Parth Prateem Sahu was recommended for elevation despite not meeting the prescribed income criterion. The Collegium reasoned that his name could still be approved, given that the income criteria was notified on May 13, 2017, while his name was proposed by the High Court Collegium on May 3, 2017.

The Collegium resolved that the consideration of the cases of the other three lawyers, Abhishek Kumar Sinha, Ashish Kumar Shrivastava and Sunil Pillai, could wait given the material on record.

All candidates were invited to interact with the Collegium to assess their suitability. Judges of the Supreme Court who were conversant with the High Court were also invited to give their views before the Collegium took its decision.
