Former US Securities and Exchange Commission fintech specialist Neel Maitra joins Wilson Sonsini as Partner

Maitra, an NLSIU graduate, will be a member of the firm's securities regulatory and complex transactions group.

Neel Maitra, formerly a fintech and cryptocurrency specialist with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has joined Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati as a Partner at the firm's Washington DC office.

Maitra will also be a member of the firm's securities regulatory and complex transactions group.

He is a 2003 graduate of National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, holds a BCL from Oxford University and a JD from Columbia Law School.

During his stint of almost 6 years at the US SEC’s Division of Trading and Markets, Maitra worked on several proposals to create cryptocurrency-based exchange-traded products as well as the first proposal to create a national securities exchange for digitally enhanced securities.

Prior to this, he was an Associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP and had also worked with Covington & Burling LLP for 3 years each.
