Former Supreme Court Judge, Justice PB Sawant passes away

Justice Sawant passed away this morning, reportedly following a cardiac arrest. He was 90 years old.

Justice PB Sawant, a former Judge of the Supreme Court of India has passed away, reportedly following a cardiac arrest this morning. Justice Sawant was 90 years old.

Justice Sawant was born in June 1930. After obtaining his LL.B. degree from the Bombay University, he practiced in the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court in various branches of law. He has also served as a lecturer in the New Law College, Bombay between 1965-66, where he taught Private International Law and Constitutional Law.

He was appointed a Judge of the Bombay High Court in 1973. He was elevated to the Supreme Court of India in October, 1989. He retired from office on June 29, 1995.
