JSA Partner Promod Nair resigns to be a full-time Counsel; Plans to establish a specialist dispute resolution practice

Promod Nair, who had joined J. Sagar Associates as a Partner in October 2011, has left the firm to be a full-time Counsel.

Promod was based out of the firm’s Bangalore office and was handling the arbitration practice at JSA.

JSA Senior Partner Berjis Desai said, “Promod has left JSA to pursue independent Counsel practice. JSA will certainly miss his great expertise in international commercial arbitrations and intends to work with him, as Counsel, closely in the future.”

Talking about his decision to leave JSA and pursue independent practice, Promod said, “JSA is an excellent firm, and I have very much enjoyed working with the many talented lawyers across its various offices. I was however keen to move to the Bar to focus on advocacy in arbitration, commercial litigation and public law matters whilst also sitting more often as an arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations.”

He added, “The plan is to establish and develop a specialist dispute resolution practice which will also be a home to other talented practitioners with similar interests.”

Prior to joining JSA, he was working as a Senior Associate with Herbert Smith FreeHills’ international arbitration group in London.

Promod is a graduate of the National Law School of India University (where he was the University topper) and also holds an LL.M. from the University of Cambridge (where he was awarded the Clive Parry Prize in International Law).

He is also a solicitor advocate with higher rights of audience in England and Wales, and is also enrolled as an advocate in India. Promod along with Darius Khambatta is one of two members from India on the LCIA Court, which consists of leading arbitration practitioners from across the world.
