Former District Judge Deep Chandra Joshi appointed acting President of NCLT

The appointment comes following the completion of the tenure of incumbent president Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar.

The Union government has appointed former District Judge Deep Chandra Joshi, who is the currently a judicial member and the senior-most member of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), to act as its president with effect from February 14.

A notification issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs stated that Joshi shall act as President under Section 415(1) of the Companies Act, 2013 from February 14 to March 16 or until a regular president is appointed or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

The appointment comes following the completion of the tenure of incumbent president Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar on February 13.

Justice Ramalingan Sudharkar

Born on March 17, 1961 in Nainital district's Ramnagar, Joshi graduated from Kumaun University in 1980 and obtained his law degree from the same university in 1983. He enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1986 and practised before the Delhi High Court and district courts.

He entered the Rajasthan Judicial Service in 1996 and went on to serve for 25 years in the State judiciary, retiring as a District & Sessions Judge on March 31, 2021.

He is currently serving as Judicial Member at the NCLT’s Jaipur Bench.
