Cyril Shroff calls for innovation, ethics, and access to justice in public lecture at JGU

The next phase requires strengthening legal and institutional frameworks to align India as a developed nation by 2047, says Shroff.

Managing Partner, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and Chairperson, Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law and Regulation, Cyril Shroff delivered a public ecture at OP Jindal Global University (JGU) on the theme, “Law, Leadership & Legacy: Redefining the Indian Legal Profession for a Changing World”.

Shroff emphasized on the importance of constitutional values, the rule of law, and resilience in shaping India's legal and economic future. He noted that India's democratic institutions, courts, and constitutional framework remain central to the country's identity and global standing.

While speaking on artificial intelligence (AI), Cyril Shroff said it is a transformative force in the legal profession, and in global politics. He pointed these as some of the motivations that led to the establishment of the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law and Regulation.

Reflecting on the Indian trajectory since India's independence and the economic liberalization in 1991, Cyril Shroff said the next phase requires strengthening legal and institutional frameworks to align the vision of India as a developed nation by 2047.

He underscored ethics, innovation, and access to justice as key priorities for the profession. Shroff also stressed upon a need for collaboration between academia, the private sector, and the state to drive meaningful change.

Partner, Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, Paridhi Adani shared her thoughts on the Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation and possibilities that arise from meaningful collaborations. She observed that JGU is in the midst of building a legacy for India through initiatives that address urgent questions of AI governance.

Founding Vice-Chancellor, JGU, Prof C Raj Kumar described the Centre as a multidisciplinary initiative that has grown steadily since its inception six months ago.

Cyril Shroff addressed issues of diversity and inclusion, noting that women constitute a large part of the law firm's workforce and hold leadership positions. He encouraged students to modernize and disrupt traditional practices.

The lecture began with introductory comments from the Dean, Academic Governance and Student Life, JGU, Prof Padmanabha and concluded with remarks from Director, Cyril Shroff Centre for AI, Law & Regulation, Prof Sidharth Chauhan.
