Bombay High Court gets 14 new judges; working strength rises to 82

Until yesterday, the High Court had a functioning strength of 68 judges against a sanctioned strength of 94. With the new appointments, the strength has come up to 82.

Fourteen new judges were sworn in as additional judges of Bombay High Court on Tuesday.

Acting Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar administered the oath to the following judges:

  1. Siddheshwar Sundarrao Thombre;

  2. Mehroz Ashraf Khan Pathan;

  3. Ranjitsinha Raja Bhonsale;

  4. Nandesh Shankarrao Deshpande;

  5. Amit Satyavan Jamsandekar;

  6. Ashish Sahadev Chavan;

  7. Vaishali Nimbajirao Patil-Jadhav;

  8. Sandesh Dadasaheb Patil;

  9. Abasaheb Dharmaji Shinde;

  10. Shreeram Vinayak Shirsat;

  11. Hiten Shamrao Venegavkar;

  12. Farhan Parvez Dubash;

  13. Rajnish Ratnakar Vyas;

  14. Raj Damodar Wakode.

The Supreme Court collegium recommended their appointment on August 19. The Central government cleared the same on August 27.

The judges will serve for a period of two years from today following which they may or may not be made permanent judges of the High Court.
