Anti-death penalty body, Project 39A of National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi) has won the 'Award for Research' at the 8th World Congress against Death Penalty held at Berlin.

Project 39A was conferred the award "for its unwavering commitment and achievements in the fight for abolition" of death penalty.

Centres from Oxford University, Cornell Law School and Monash University were among those shortlisted for the award.

The 8th World Congress against Death Penalty brings together more than 1,000 participants from 90 countries. The participants include human rights activists and public figures who work towards abolition of death penalty.

The Congress had organised an awards ceremony for the first time and the event was held at Berlin from November 15 to 18.

The Congress was organised by the Council of Europe’s partners, a Paris-based NGO “Together against the Death Penalty” and the World Coalition against the Death Penalty.
