Senior Advocate Shashank Garg has been appointed as a member of the Court at the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA).
Garg's appointment as a Member of LCIA Court marks a significant step in the LCIA's deepening engagement with India. He brings over 16 years of experience in international commercial arbitration, sports arbitration, construction law and civil and commercial mediation.
He has represented clients before Arbitral Tribunals in ad-hoc and institutional arbitration under all leading institutional rules (ICC, SIAC, LCIA, SCC, DIAC, HKIAC, AAA, etc.), and also acts as an Arbitrator.
Garg also serves as the Secretary of the Arbitration Bar of India and Chair of the Indian Arbitration Group. He is a member of the Arbitration Committee of the Delhi International Arbitration Centre and a Nominated Member (India) of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. He also serves as the Vice President of the Society of Construction Law - India.
On his appointment, Garg said,
“It is an honour to join an institution whose reputation for independence and integrity has endured for over 130 years. The LCIA has consistently set the standard for international arbitration, and I look forward to being part of that tradition — particularly as it deepens its engagement with India and the broader South Asian market.”
The two other new Court Members are Carine Dupeyron, Partner and Co-Head of International Arbitration at Darrois (Paris) and Reza Mohtashami, King’s Counsel and Partner at Three Crowns, as new Members of the LCIA Court
Nania Owusu-Ankomah, Partner at Bentsi-Enchill, Letsa & Ankomah (Ghana) and Associate Member of 3VB (London), has been promoted from Court Member to Vice President of the LCIA Court. Nania has played a significant role in the leadership and development of the LCIA African Users’ Council, and her appointment recognises her highly valued contribution to the Court and to the LCIA more broadly.
Kevin Nash, Director General of the LCIA, said,
“These appointments strengthen the LCIA Court in exactly the right way. Nania has already made a real contribution to the LCIA’s leadership through her work on the Court and with the African Users’ Council, and her appointment as Vice President properly recognises that. The new Court Members add eminent, specialist experience in common law and civil law systems, and across user markets that are central to the LCIA’s global work, including Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, and India.”
Professor Maxi Scherer, President of the LCIA Court, said:
“These appointments reflect the LCIA Court’s continued focus on excellence, diversity of experience, and institutional strength. I am delighted to welcome Carine, Reza and Shashank as new Court Members, and to continue working with Nania in her new role as Vice President. Their combined international expertise and strong reputations will further enhance the Court’s vital role at the heart of the LCIA’s work.”
