Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has reconstituted the Artificial Intelligence Committee of the Supreme Court, signaling a continued focus on integrating technology into the justice system.
The reconstituted committee will be chaired by Supreme Court Justice PS Narasimha.
The other judges part of the reconstituted committee are:
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh
Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan V, Judge of the High Court of Kerala
Justice Anoop Chitkara, Judge of the High Court of Punjab & Haryana
Justice Suraj Govindaraj, Judge of the High Court of Karnataka
To support the committee, Anupam Patra, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) (Registrar) (Technology), Supreme Court of India, will serve as the Secretary (member) and Convenor, responsible for coordinating the Committee’s activities.
Additionally, Ashish J Shiradhonkar, Member (Systems), eCommittee, Supreme Court of India, will participate as a Special Invitee, providing technical expertise and guidance.
The reconstituted committee aims to continue to provide strategic guidance and oversight on initiatives involving the adoption, development, and deployment of artificial intelligence technologies across the Supreme Court and the subordinate judiciary.
By monitoring and coordinating these efforts, the committee aims to ensure that AI tools are implemented in a manner that supports judges, court staff, and litigants effectively.
Its work will focus on streamlining judicial processes, including case management, scheduling, and documentation, thereby reducing delays and improving the efficiency of the courts.
These initiatives also aim to enhance accessibility for litigants, making legal proceedings more navigable and user-friendly.
Another key objective is to promote transparency in the functioning of the judiciary, ensuring that processes are clear and accountable.
