ILS Law College, Pune wins 7th NLIU- Justice RK Tankha Memorial International Arbitration Moot Court Competition, 2022.

The competition was organized by NLIU in collaboration with the Office of Senior Advocate and Member of Parliament Vivek Tankha, Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), L&L Partners Law Offices and Allen & Gledhill LLP along with other leading National and International Institutions, from 10 March - 13 March, 2022.

The ILS team consisting of Namita Pandey, Aditya Shete, Gautam Garg and Keyur Jaju, not only emerged as the winners of the competition but Aditya Shete also bagged the award for the best oralist in the final round.

The competition took place between 10-13th of March and was judged by the eminent panel consisting of Prof Dr Stefan Kroll, Prof Loukas Mistelis and Mr Davinder Singh.

While sharing their experience at the preparation, Aditya Shete spoke “Since it was our first exposure to international arbitration and contracts, the first thing we did was read commentaries covering the basics of the same. As we got more comfortable with the moot proposition we divided work amongst the four of us, and ensured that we constantly updated each other about what we were studying. For the oral rounds, we practiced with our seniors and people from other colleges who had also done the competition. Their feedback was integral to our performance. “

Namita Pandey while recalling their preparation days highlighted that it wasn’t a very mellifluous journey and talked about major pullbacks through which the team managed to pass successfully.

She recollects, “Our memo submission got delayed, due to which we were slightly dejected going into the competition. Then, one of our teammates had an emergency right before the competition that he had to deal with, which was a pretty significant setback. The experience was great, partly because there wasn’t a huge deal of pressure to win - we just wanted to focus on individually giving our best in each round. It was extremely rewarding to be asked questions by the arbitrators, and the both of us were always very eager to make our presentations.

Our ritual of chanting “Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose,” while entering into the rounds definitely played a part in making the experience as fun as it was.”

Collectively the team shared the feeling of excitement and nervousness when the results were being announced. Aditya recalled, “Our friends were sitting with us for the awards ceremony, and our names hadn't even been mentioned completely before everyone started yelling and celebrating. We weren’t sure for quite a bit that we were announced as the winners, and not the runners-up. However, that just made it all the more exciting to see ILS Law College on the winning poster!
