Jamia Millia Islamia-Delhi emerges as Runners-Up in 18th KK Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition

Jamia Millia Islamia University was adjudged runners-up in the 18th K.K. Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition, 2022. The competition was organized by Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, the University of Delhi virtually from March 7 to March 13.

A team comprising of Sehar Rauf, Janvhi Rastogi, and Tanya Jaiswal represented the University.

66 teams from law institutions across the world participated. The moot proposition was released and was scheduled to be held on January 2022. However, due to the sudden outbreak of COVID again, it was postponed to March 2022.

Speaking to the Apprentice Lawyer, the team exclaimed, "These nine months were very fascinating but equally challenging as the proposition was based on the core subjects of criminal law i.e., Indian penal code (IPC), Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and Indian Evidence Act. The problem revolved around a murder of young boy. However, there was no direct evidence; thus, totally based on circumstantial evidence and last seen theory. As a result, the proposition required us to look at all the intricacies from investigation to trial and go in the shoe of prosecution and the defence to frame the best arguments.

Whether it be knowledge of the law or the knowledge of articulating impressive arguments, we have acquired so much through this moot that will surely succor us in the legal professional world. We felt so fortunate to present our submissions before the Esteemed judges of the Delhi HC in the final round. We hope to keep endeavoring in the future to make our teachers and parents prouder.”

Speaking to Apprentice Lawyer, Janvhi a team member exclaimed, “I had a stupendous experience as a speaker in this moot and it became even more thrilling when we had to present our arguments before Hon'ble judges of the Delhi High Court. We tried to substantiate our arguments by balancing both law and facts so that decision comes in our favour.”

The team said that this victory would not have been possible without the help of their seniors and batchmates who helped them immensely for the competition.

This note was shared by Campus Ambassador Vishakha Singh.
