
The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the transfer of Madras High Court Justice J Nisha Banu to the Kerala High Court.
The decision was taken in Collegium meetings held on August 25 and 26.
Justice Banu began practice before the Madras High Court, handling writ, civil, criminal, debts recovery and rent control cases, with a specialisation in service law.
Following the establishment of the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court in 2004, she shifted her practice there. She served as President of the Women Advocates Association of the Madurai Bench until her elevation as Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Federation for Women Lawyers and Joint Secretary of the All India Federation for Women Lawyers.
She was counsel for the Director of Revenue Intelligence, the Bar Council of India, and Annamalai University. She was also an accredited mediator and member of the Sensitisation Committee, and acted as counsel for the Legal Services Authority of India. As a member of the Lok Adalat, she mediated and resolved several cases.
Justice Banu was appointed as a judge of the Madras High Court on October 5, 2016.
