Delhi High Court Bar Association passes resolution against 'Bulli Bai deals'

The Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) has passed a resolution against 'Bulli Bai Deals', an app which put out details of Muslim women allowing users to participate in an 'auction'..A meeting of the executive committee of DHCBA was held on Wednesday , through video conference, and the following resolution was passed:"Resolved that the Delhi High Court Bar Association unequivocally and in the strongest terms condemns the malicious, mischievous and reprehensible act of creating, developing and hosting of the App 'Bulli Bai' allowing the users to participate in a false auction of several respectable ladies. The said act not only tantamount to commission of grave criminal offenses but also targets and brings disrepute to the female citizenry." .The resolution also stated that DHCBA shall address a communication to the Delhi Commissioner of Police and demand immediate registration of FIRs, and an efficient, expeditious investigation so that all persons found guilty of having committed the dastardly crime are punished in accordance with law..DHCBA president Mohit Mathur, speaking to Bar & Bench, said that strict action should be taken against those playing with dignity of people."It is unfortunate that social media is being used in this manner, they are demeaning respectable people of the society who have nothing to do with them. Strict actions should be taken against them for playing with the dignity of people. They may have targeted you today, tomorrow anyone from us can be targeted. If lawyers don't come up to condemn this and ask for actions to be taken who is going to do it," he said..The app and auction had appeared on open source platform GitHub, triggering wide outrage.The Delhi Police, acting on a complaint by one of the targets, journalist Ismat Ara, had registered an FIR against unidentified persons for offences under Sections 153A (promoting enmity on grounds of religion etc), 153B (imputations prejudicial to national-integration), 354A (sexual harassment) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code..Meanwhile, Mumbai Police, which had also registered an FIR, have already made three arrest so far in relation to the case.
