Bar Council of Delhi suspends 15 more lawyers for their alleged role in Tis Hazari Court violence

The BCD has, till now, suspended 20 lawyers for allegedly being involved in firing, stone pelting, and hurling abuses recently at the Tis Hazari Courts complex.

The Bar Council of Delhi (BCD) on July 14 suspended the licenses/ enrolment of 15 more advocates suspected of being involved in violent clashes at Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court complex earlier this month.

Advocates Vibhu Tyagi, Vishal Yadav, Akash Khatri, Amulya Sharma, Deepak Arora, Jitesh Khari, Lalit, Mohit Sharma, Rahul Sharma, Randeep Singh, Sandeep Sood, Sanjay Kumar, Satish Kumar, Sharad Sharma, and Shiv Ram Pandey have been suspended with immediate effect.

The BCD had taken suo motu cognisance of videos of the violence that went viral recently, in which two groups of lawyers were seen clashing, opening fire with guns, pelting stones, and hurling abuses at each other.

The lawyers’ body had formed a Fact-Finding Committee to identify the lawyers involved in the incident.

The Committee forwarded its interim report to the BCD after speaking to the members of Tis Hazari Bar and examining the videos.

Based on this interim report, the BCD has now suspended the licence of 15 advocates with immediate effect.

“After considering the recommendations of the Committee and material placed on record, Chairman, Bar Council of Delhi is fully satisfied that you among other advocates, are also seen actively involved in the violent incident and throwing stone,” read the notices issued to the suspended lawyers.

The suspended lawyers have been directed to submit their written explanation and appear before the BCD on August 25 at 4 PM.

Earlier, on July 5 and July 6, the BCD had suspended five advocates for their alleged role in the violence. Those lawyers are Manish Sharma, Lalit Sharma, Aman Singh, Sachin Sangwan, and Ravi Gupta.

Three lawyers accused of being involved in the brawl were remanded to police custody for 4 days by a Delhi court on July 6.
