Centre clears appointment of eleven persons as Madhya Pradesh High Court judges

The Central government on Monday cleared the appointment of 11 lawyers and judicial officers as the judges of Madhya Pradesh High Court.

The Supreme Court Collegium had on July 1 and 2 recommended the names of five judicial officers and five lawyers for elevation as High Court. The government in the notifications issued today has cleared all them and also one judicial officer recommended earlier.

The following lawyers, who were recommended by the Collegium on July 1, have been cleared for appointment:

(i) Pushpendra Yadav;

(ii) Anand Singh Bahrawat;

(iii) Ajay Kumar Nirankari;

(iv) Jai Kumar Pillai;

(v) Himanshu Joshi.

The following two judicial officers have cleared for permanent appointment:

(vi) Ramkumar Choubey;

(vii) Rajesh Kumar Gupta.

Choubey was recommended to be appointed as a judge in January this year. His name had initially been recommended by the High Court Collegium in May 2023.

The following judicial officers have been cleared for appointment as Additional Judges of the High Court for two years.

(viii) Alok Awasthi;

(ix) Ratnesh Chandra Singh Bisen;

(x) Bhagwati Prasad Sharma.

The following judicial officer has also been cleared for appointment as an additional judge for a period of two years with effect from August 10.

(xi) Pradeep Mittal

Madhya Pradesh High Court is currently functioning with a strength of 34 judges as against a sanctioned strength of 53. Two of the High Court judges are set to retire on August 9 and 13.
