Delhi HC to conduct virtual interview of 237 Advocates for senior designation from October 5 onwards

The Delhi High Court will soon begin the process of interview/interaction for awarding senior designation to Advocates in terms of High Court of Delhi Designation of Senior Advocate Rules, 2018..As per a Notice issued by the High Court, the interview shall be conducted virtually from October 5, 2020 till October 14, 2020. .The schedule of the interview for 237 Advocates is attached with the notice. .237 Advocates apply for Senior Designation before Delhi High Court [Read Notice].The candidates are at liberty to join the video conference from their respective residences/Offices or from the facility at the High Court premises..The web-link for participating in the interview/interaction shall be forwarded to the candidates on the scheduled date on their email ID. .In case one does not receive the web-link till 1 p.m. on the day of interview/interaction or is unable to connect, he/she may immediately contact Sarsij Kumar, Joint Director. .The applications for Senior Designation were called last year pursuant to the newly notified High Court of Delhi Designation of Senior Advocate Rules, 2018..Thereafter, a petition was filed challenging Rule 7 of the Senior Designation Rules insofar as it called for a joint proposal by three Seniors to recommend a lawyer for designation..On May 15, 2019, the High Court stayed the operation of this Rule. A Division Bench of then Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Anup J Bhambhani had thus allowed advocates to directly apply to the Committee for designation as Senior Advocates..Ultimately, the High Court published a public notice stating that Rule 7 had been amended and that the condition of a joint proposal by three Senior Advocates had been done away with. .In view of the amendment, the High Court afforded one more opportunity to advocates who are eligible and wish to apply for the Senior gown to submit their applications.
