Manual Scavenging: Delhi High Court orders ₹10 lakh compensation for families of two who died in blocked sewer

The Court said that it is unfortunate that poor people forced to work as manual scavengers even after 75 years of Independence.

The Delhi High court Thursday observed that it is unfortunate that even after 75 years of independence, poor people are forced to work as manual scavengers and that the provisions of Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 (PEMSR) are not being followed [Court on its own motion v Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Ors].
