The International Student Scholarship, sponsored by Royzz & Co. Law Firm, provides a $5,000 scholarship for one graduate student studying Intellectual Property law at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law.

Since 2019, Royzz & Co has partnered with UNH Franklin Pierce School of Law to provide a $5,000 scholarship for one graduate student studying Intellectual Property (IP) at the law school, ranked #4 in IP by US News & World Report.

So far, the scholarship has been a keen predictor of student success. Mohak Rana LLM ’20, who won the scholarship in 2019, felt that the field of IP law was underdeveloped in his home country of India.

His interest in IP - originally piqued as a boy by attending his father’s copyright meetings at the family’s publications and media house - only grew as he became older.

He decided at age 25, after earning his B.B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) degree at the Kirit P Mehta School of Law in Mumbai, that he wanted to expand his knowledge of the field. For Mohak, applying to UNH Franklin Pierce was a top choice.

“My whole idea was that if I wanted to get an LLM, I was going to get it from the best. I did not aim for the Ivy League or other places, which were offering a general LLM, because my idea was to go to a specialist school. It boosts my profile and standing in the IP community back in India …The law school is something you will always be proud to be associated with because of its worldwide recognition among IP professionals,” he said.

What convinced Mohak to attend UNH Franklin Pierce, however, was the $5,000 Royzz & Co. Law Firm scholarship he won as well as additional merit-based aid he received, making UNH a “cost-effective option,” he says.

Since his graduation in 2020, Mohak has enjoyed much success, becoming an LL.M. Advisor to Lawctopus, an Advocate in the District and Sessions Court, Dehradun, and he even started his own IP law practice, Yukti.

Nabhali Mhatre LLM ‘22, who won the scholarship in 2020, began her journey to UNH Franklin Pierce quite differently, though ultimately chose the school for many of the same reasons as Mohak. She studied at Mumbai’s Pravin Gandhi College of Law and discovered a passion for intellectual property law and an interest in learning how to protect creators and their innovations.

“I believe in the power of artists and creators and that with their brainchild, they can change the world. As an aspiring Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) professional, it provides me a sense of fulfilment that I would be able to protect and preserve the finest creations,” Nabhali shared.

As Nabhali worked towards her dream of becoming an IPR professional, she recognized the value in gaining knowledge and experience from a school that specializes in the subject matter and chose to pursue her LL.M. in IP from UNH Franklin Pierce.

When asked why she chose UNH Franklin Pierce, Nabhali responded,

“It is a globally recognized institution for learning which ensures that its students are best prepared for any challenge.”

UNH Franklin Pierce’s 24 credit LL.M. program was ideal for Nabhali, as it is designed for both domestic and foreign-trained attorneys and judges, and those with a legal education who are seeking specialized training on cutting-edge issues in intellectual property.

Upon earning the LL.M. degree at Franklin Pierce, Nabhali intends to practice as an IP attorney with a focus on trademarks and copyright issues. Her long-term goal is to assist in the process of IP policy formulation.

“Only a well-rounded policy can help achieve the delicate balance between the interest of innovators and the wider public interest of every citizen. It is my professional goal and desire to help achieve that equilibrium,” Nabhali explained.

As for the International Student Scholarship, Nabhali says that the application process was simple. She contacted the admissions office for an application and submitted a brief essay outlining her financial need and why she was deserving of the award based on her professional and academic background. Nabhali notes that the scholarship is helping fund her education so she can, realize her long-cherished dream of empowering creators and thereby encourage innovation and development in the world.

Both students have enjoyed much success in their academic and professional careers and encourage you to apply for the Royzz & Co. International Student Scholarship.
