Supreme Court Collegium recommends 10 for Madhya Pradesh High Court judgeship

5 lawyers and 5 judicial officers have been recommended for judgeship.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of 5 judicial officers and 5 lawyers for elevation as judges of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.

After meetings held on July 1 and 2, the Collegium recommended the following lawyers for judgeship:

i) Pushpendra Yadav

(ii) Anand Singh Bahrawat

(iii) Ajay Kumar Nirankari

(iv) Jai Kumar Pillai

(v) Himanshu Joshi

The following 5 judicial officers have been recommended for elevation:

(i) Rajesh Kumar Gupta

(ii) Alok Awasthi

(iii) Ratnesh Chandra Singh Bisen

(iv) Bhagwati Prasad Sharma

(v) Pradeep Mittal

The Madhya Pradesh High Court is currently functioning with a strength of 33 judges as against a sanctioned strength of 53.

Notably, Bar & Bench reported today that the Collegium has tightened the process for selection of judges and intensified scrutiny of candidates.

It was also revealed that the Collegium interacted with a total of 54 candidates in 2 days to fill High Court judge vacancies.
