Supreme Court Collegium recommends 10 judicial officers for appointment as Punjab and Haryana High Court judges

The High Court is currently functioning with 51 judges as against a sanctioned strength of 85.

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of ten judicial officers for appointment as judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The judicial officers recommended are:

  1. Virinder Aggarwal;

  2. Mandeep Pannu;

  3. Parmod Goyal;

  4. Shalini Singh Nagpal;

  5. Amarinder Singh Grewal;

  6. Subhas Mehla;

  7. Surya Partap Singh;

  8. Rupinderjit Chahal;

  9. Aradhana Sawhney; and

  10. Yashvir Singh Rathor.

As reported by Bar and Bench earlier today, the Collegium has been holding meetings and interviews with candidates since Tuesday, July 1 to fill up vacancies in various High Courts

Sources close to the Collegium confirmed that the body responsible for judicial appointments interacted with 20 candidates on the first day and 34 candidates on the second day.

The Collegium has opted for a different approach including thorough interviews with candidates to assess them better and gauge their calibre.

The recommendations for Punjab and Haryana High Court were decided by the Collegium in a meeting held on July 2.

The High Court is currently functioning with 51 judges as against a sanctioned strength of 85.
