Bar & Bench

Calcutta High Court judge Justice Protik Prokash Banerjee passed away this morning at around 5.15 am due to heart failure. He was 51 years old.

The cremation will be today at 10.30 am.

Justice Protik Prokash Banerjee was elevated as an additional judge of the Calcutta High Court in September 2017. Earlier this year, the Central Government had extended his term as an Additional Judge of the Calcutta High Court for another year.

He enrolled at the bar on January 25, 1995. He initially practised as an Advocate-on-Record on the Appellate Side of the Hon’ble High Court at Calcutta and then as counsel in both the Original and Appellate Sides, in Civil, Constitutional Writ, Company, Labour, Commercial, Testamentary and Intestate jurisdictions, and reveled in trial law and arbitration.

His pleasure was drafting and appearing in cases representing the ostensibly weaker side.
