Vishnu Shankar joins the UK Information Commissioner’s Office as Head of Legal - Regulatory Enforcement in London

Shankar has previously worked with leading law firms like Covington & Burling LLP and Sidley Austin LLP in the United Kingdom.

Former TMT/Privacy/Cybersecurity Partner at Proskauer Rose LLP, Vishnu Shankar has joined the UK Information Commissioner’s Office as Head of Legal - Regulatory Enforcement in London.

Shankar is a 2005 graduate of the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore. He earned his BCL from the University of Oxford in 2007 and an LLM from the Harvard Law School in 2008.

Shankar started his career as a judicial law clerk to Justice BN Srikrishna, Judge, Supreme Court of India. Following that he moved to the United Kingdom where he worked with Covington & Burling LLP. In September 2015, he moved to Dublin to work with Mason Hayes & Curran for a year. He later moved back to UK to work with Sidley Austin LLP for close to 5 years.

Prior to joining the UK Information Commissioner’s Office, Shankar held the position of a TMT/Privacy/Cybersecurity Partner at Proskauer Rose LLP for nearly 2 years.

Sharing his new appointment on LinkedIn, Shankar posted,

"After 15 years in Big Law, I am looking forward to enforcing the UK’s civil and criminal data privacy and cybersecurity laws, and advancing the public interest."
