Ameet Datta, the former Intellectual Property (IP) and Media Partner at Luthra & Luthra Law Offices has joined Saikrishna & Associates with effect from July 2, 2012.

Ameet had moved to Luthra in 2008 from Anand & Anand. He joined Anand & Anand in 1999 and went on to become a Partner in 2005.

Speaking to Bar & Bench, Saikrishna & Associates Managing Partner Saikrishna Rajagopal said, “I have known Ameet personally and professionally for more than a decade now. I am really delighted to have him on board because I think he will add a new dimension and thrust to our practice”.

Ameet will mainly focus on media and entertainment, technology, and the litigation and enforcement around these specific areas with a fair bit of policy development and reform in the IP sphere.

Citing “entrepreneurial opportunities” as the primary reason to join Saikrishna, Ameet said, “I wanted to do something that was entrepreneurial where I could hopefully play a role in a firm that was expanding its horizons, a firm that was aggressive in its growth. I have known Saikrishna for my entire career and he has been more than a mentor throughout my career. It’s a combination of the fact that I always wanted to work with him plus the fact that I would realize what entrepreneurial ambitions I had and dreams I had for myself at Saikrishna”.

He added, “This opportunity was simply a combination of too many great factors. Saikrishna is a very dynamic firm and I really wanted to be part of this story.”

Talking about his experience working at Luthta & Luthra, Ameet said, “Luthra & Luthra was a lot of fun. It was a great experience and it is a great place to work. It was a tough decision that way to leave the firm. Mr. Rajiv Luthra is an exceptional person to work for”.

Luthra Managing Partner Rajiv Luthra said, “Ameet’s leaving the firm is certainly a loss to the IP department. I feel sad to see him go but as the firm grows bigger, such losses are inevitable. We are good friends and I wish him all the best for his future”.

With Ameet joining Saikrishna, the firm now has 6 partners. The total number of lawyers is 42.
