A fire broke out at the district court complex in Gurugram on Sunday, damaging a significant portion of the main court building.
The fire reportedly started from the record room of the lower court premises, where paper records were stored. Fire tenders were deployed, and operations continued for several hours to bring the blaze under control.
A section of the ceiling collapsed following the fire, affecting parts of the structure. The incident has now led to the sealing of the main premises, with access to advocates’ chambers also restricted.
In view of the damage, regular judicial work in the main court building was suspended on May 25 (Monday). No adverse orders are to be passed in cases listed for the day.
Advocates have also been advised to avoid visiting the court premises unless there is urgent or necessary work.
C-Block parking and gate number 6 have been closed as a precautionary measure.
According to the Hindustan Times, officials indicated that the presence of a large volume of paper files contributed to the spread of the fire.
No injuries have been reported. Police have restricted access to parts of the complex, as cooling operations continued after the fire was contained.
The extent of damage to court records and infrastructure is yet to be fully assessed.
Authorities are expected to conduct a detailed inspection after the site is secured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
