A Sessions Court in Delhi on Saturday evening stayed the Magistrate's order granting bail to Indian Youth Congress (IYC) President Uday Bhanu Chib in the case related to shirtless protests at the India AI Impact Summit.

Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Amit Bansal of the Patiala House Court passed the order staying the bail.

A detailed order is awaited.

Notably, Duty Magistrate Vanshika Mehta had granted bail to Chib early Saturday morning at around 3:30 AM.

Chib was produced before the Duty Magistrate early morning by Delhi Police to extend his remand by seven days. However, the Court found no reason to extend his custody.

Instead, the judge allowed his bail application and ordered him to be released on bail.

The Delhi Police then moved the Sessions Court which stayed the Magistrate's order.

Chib was taken into custody for questioning on February 23 and arrested the next morning. He was then produced before the court, which remanded him to police custody for four days.

Members of the IYC staged a shirtless protest inside the India AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam on February 20. 

Several activists entered the venue, some removing their shirts to reveal T-shirts with slogans like “PM is compromised” and criticisms of the India-US trade deal, before chanting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and government policies. 

Police have so far made fourteen arrests in connection with the case, accused them of breaching security and raising alleged "anti-national" slogans at the venue.
