The West Bengal government has appointed Senior Advocates Rajdeep Mazumder, Nilanjan Bhattacharyya and Dibyendra Narayan Ray as law officers for the State before the Calcutta High Court.

Mazumder has been appointed as Additional Advocate General while Bhattacharyya and Ray as Senior Standing Counsel and Government Pleader respectively.

The appointments have been made pursuant to the BJP coming to power in West Bengal.

Mazumder had earlier been appointed Deputy Solicitor General of India for the Calcutta High Court. He was among the lawyers designated as Senior Advocates by the Calcutta High Court in November 2024.

Bhattacharyya is a Senior Advocate practicing primarily at the Calcutta High Court. His legal practice centers on constitutional writ jurisdiction, civil disputes, corporate arbitration and administrative service law.

Ray is a Senior Advocate designated by the Calcutta High Court, where he operates from the appellate side Bar. His practice focuses on constitutional law, property disputes and administrative service matters involving employee benefits and pensions. In 2018, he was recommended by the Calcutta High Court for elevation as a judge. However, in 2019, the Supreme Court Collegium sent back the recommendation.
