University of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Dehradun Wins B. M. Sreenivasaiah Memorial, 6th National Moot Court Competition

B.M. Sreenivasaiah Memorial 6th National Moot Court Competition, a flagship event was organized virtually by B.M.S. College of Law, Bengaluru from 08th to 11th July, 2021.

The team comprising Parth Nangru (BA LLB 3rd year), Abhishant Kumar (BA LLB Energy Laws 5th year) and Sanjana Dwivedi (BA LLB Energy Laws, 4th year) from University of Petroleum and Energy Studies emerged as the winners in the B. M. Sreenivasaiah Memorial, 6th National Moot Court Competition, 2021.

Mooting has always been integral to the culture of BMSCL to promote and equip students with the required skill set in research and advocacy. Mooting can best be simulated as the nearest experience to one fighting in the court of law while still in college. Moot Court hall of the college imitates a real court hall giving the students “A trial before the trial”.

Thirty teams hailing from different parts of the country had participated in the competition. The Competition was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sreenivas Harish Kumar, Judge of the High Court of Karnataka.

The final round was adjudged by Hon’ble Dr. Justice H.B. Prabhakara Shastry, Judge High Court of Karnataka, Smt. S. Susheela, Senior Counsel, High Court of Karnataka and Sri. Sudhish Pai, Advocate, High Court of Karnataka, Bengaluru.

UPES School of Law, Dehradun, represented by Parth Nangru, Abhishant Kumar & Sanjana Dwivedi emerged victorious in the competition. CNLU, Patna were the runners up. The winners took home a cash award of Rs. 35,000.

The runners up also bagged Rs. 30,000.

Prizes were also given in various other categories, including Best Orator Female and Male, Best Written Submission and Best Researcher.

Best Orator Male: Mr. Abhishant Kumar, UPES School of Law, Dehradun.

Best Orator Female: Ms. Snegha R, Government Law College, Vellore.

Best Researcher: Ms.Sanjana Dwivedi, UPES School of Law, Dehradun.

Best written Submission: Damodaran Sanjivayya National Law University, Vizag (Team comprising of Kuppili Hanita, Charishma Guggilam & Kamana Divyasree).
