The Kerala High Court on Friday stayed the criminal proceedings against actor Sreenath Bhasi who was booked for using filthy language while being interviewed by woman for a social media channel [Mr Sreenath Bhasi v The State of Kerala and Another].Justice Kauser Edappagath granted the stay after noting that the matter had been settled between the parties out of court.The order was passed on a plea by Bhasi seeking to quash the proceedings against him. .Bhasi had allegedly used filthy language while speaking to a female interviewer from the organisation 'Behind Woods'.A first information report (FIR) was then registered against him alleging commission of offences under Section 354A(i)(iv) (making sexually colored remarks), 294(b) (obscene words in or near any public place) and 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code.In his plea, Bhasi contended that the matter has been settled out of court between him and the female interviewer concerned, and that she has sworn in an affidavit that she has no further complaint against him..Senior Advocate S Sreekumar, and advocates Martin Jose, P Prijith, Thomas P Kuruvilla, R Githesh, Ajay Ben Jose, Manjunath Menon, Sachin Jacob Ambat, Anna Linda VJ, and Harikrishnan S are representing Bhasi.
