'Jana Gana Mana' and 'Vande Mataram' stand on equal footing, should be respected equally: Central government to Delhi High Court

The MHA, however, said that though the national anthem and song have their sanctity and deserve equal respect but the same cannot be a matter of a writ petition before the court.

The national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ stand on equal footing and every citizen of the country should have same respect for both, the the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) told the Delhi High Court on Friday [Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay vs Union of India and ors].
