The Madras High Court has passed an interim order restraining the unauthorised broadcast or dissemination of Hindi film Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos ahead of its scheduled release on January 16, 2026 [Aamir Khan Productions Vs BSNL].

Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy passed the ad-interim injunction order on a suit filed by Aamir Khan Films, the production banner of actor Aamir Khan.

Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos is spy comedy film produced by Aamir Khan Films. The film stars Vir Das in the titular role and also marks his feature film directorial debut. The ensemble cast includes Mona Singh and Imran Khan, who makes a return to films after a long hiatus, along with Sharib Hashmi, Mithila Palkar and Srushti Tawade in supporting roles.

The film's producer had sought protection against apprehended copyright infringement ahead of the film's release. Its suit was instituted against internet service providers and cable television operators.

The producer raised concerns that the unauthorised dissemination of the film prior to its theatrical release would result in serious and irreversible injury.

The Court on Monday observed that in matters of this nature, irreversible injury is likely to be caused unless ad-interim relief is granted. It, therefore, passed an interim order restraining any unauthorised broadcast of the film.

At the same time, it acknowledged that the expansive nature of the relief sought by the filmmakers could potentially affect the legitimate business interests of one or more respondents to the suit.

Balancing these considerations, the Court directed that the producer must indemnify any respondents whose legitimate business interests are affected by today's injunction order.

Subject to this condition, the Court has granted an ad-interim injunction in favour of the producer until further orders.
