Shashi Tharoor moves Court to preserve Sunanda Pushkar's Twitter account, IO to file a reply

The Special MP/MLA Court today directed the Delhi Police to file its reply to an application by Shashi Tharoor seeking preservation of Sunanda Pushkar's Twitter account. (State vs Shashi Tharoor).The application is part of the criminal proceedings against Tharoor in connection with the mysterious death of his wife, Sunanda Pushkar in January 2014..In August last year, the Delhi Police had pressed for framing of charges under Sections 498A and 306 or alternatively under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code against Tharoor who is the sole accused in the case..Sunanda Pushkar: Delhi Police presses for framing of charges against Shashi Tharoor under Sections 498A, 306 or 302 IPC.Tharoor had then moved an application under Section 91 CrPC to bring on record the tweets posted by Sunanda Pushkar through her Twitter handle before her death..It was Tharoor's case that the tweets indicated that Pushkar was not having any “suicidal ideations”, and was rather in a positive frame of mind with respect to her relationship with Tharoor..While the application was dismissed by Special Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar, the Court had nonetheless opined that the tweets could be produced before it at an appropriate stage..Delhi Court dismisses Shashi Tharoor’s plea to bring tweets by Sunanda Pushkar on record.Appearing for Tharoor, Senior Advocate Vikas Pahwa today apprehended that given the long duration of inactivity in the present case i.e since January 2014, the Twitter account might be deleted in furtherance of Twitter's policy on inactive accounts..He thus sought a direction to the Investigating Officer, Delhi Police to write to Twitter to preserve Sunanda Pushkar's account and tweets..The matter would be heard next on March 20.
