Khaitan & Co advises Reliance on acquisition and relaunch of SIL

The transaction supports Reliance’s comprehensive entry into the packaged foods segment.

Reliance Consumer Products Limited, the FMCG arm of Reliance Industries Limited, has acquired the 75-year-old legacy foods brand SIL from Sil Food India Private Limited, and has subsequently relaunched the brand.

The transaction was led by Vinit Shukla and Prabhu Nagarajan from Reliance Consumer Products Limited.

Khaitan & Co also advised Reliance on this acquisition and relaunch.

The transaction team consisted of Purti Minawala (Partner), Shailendra Bhandare (Partner), Anisha Chand (Partner), Sweta Rao (Counsel) and Yash Bhagwat (Senior Associate).

The transaction supports Reliance’s comprehensive entry into the packaged foods segment, with SIL being positioned as its flagship foods brand across categories including noodles, jams, ketchups, sauces and spreads. The acquisition forms part of Reliance's broader strategy to reinvigorate and modernise some of India’s most beloved heritage brands.

The revival marks a significant step in Reliance’s strategy of building a future-ready foods portfolio while strengthening trusted Indian legacy brands to deliver high-quality, value-driven food products for Indian households.
