Former Vice President Legal at OYO, Varun Sehgal has joined J. Sagar Associates as a Partner to further strengthen the firm’s corporate practice. He will be based out of the firm's Mumbai office.
Sehgal is a 2006 graduate of the National Law University, Jodhpur and began his career with the erstwhile Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A Shroff & Co. where he worked for over 6 years.
Sehgal has over 16 years of professional experience in Corporate and M&A practice with a focus on strategic acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructuring, and commercial agreements. His sectoral expertise spans various sectors including retail trade, e-commerce, technology, energy and infrastructure, manufacturing, and industrials. As a part of his private practice career, Sehgal has advised various multinational corporations (including multiple Japanese corporations) on their investments and business operations in India.
He was previously Partner at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas and at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas where he worked cumulatively for close to 9 years. He has also worked with Anderson Mori & Tomotsune for about a year in Tokyo, Japan.
In Sehgal's previous role at OYO, he was part of its global legal and compliance team, and his areas of focus were transaction management (domestic and international M&A), managing compliances and restructuring of the debt facilities of the OYO group and handling general corporate and regulatory matters.
