Whelan has over a decade's experience in arbitration and litigation, and has been part of the Disputes team of multiple leading law firms such as Pinsent Masons, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP.

At Akin Gump, Whelan was leading the firm's Middle East infrastructure disputes practice. He Sspecializes in high-value, complex and cross-border arbitration, litigation and infrastructure projects.
