Akshay Jaitly and Karan Singh, who together co-founded Trilegal in 2000, have started TrustBridge, a non-profit that aims to study the rule of law to improve the functioning of markets, business and the economy in India. 

TrustBridge will work in collaboration with the Centre for Study of Rule of Law at National Law School of India University (NLSIU) Bangalore.

Jaitly has a Master's in International Affairs and Law from Columbia SIPA in 1991 and a Bachelor of Arts, Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford in 1995. After working with Ashurst in London and Tokyo for nearly five years, he co-founded Trilegal in April 2000 and headed the firm's Energy and Infrastructure practice.

Singh is a 1995 graduate of NLSIU and co-founded Trilegal in 2000. He has worked with the firm for over 22 years.

TrustBridge works at the intersection of law and business with the aim of helping both the state and the private sector improve the rules-based environment within which businesses operate in India.

As per a press release, the Centre at NLSIU is envisioned to be a five-year-long initiative and will initially focus on the rule of law in two key areas:

(i) Financial markets, and

(ii) Government litigation and contracting.

The Centre will operate under an Executive Committee and an Advisory Board, and will have a team comprising researchers from the areas of law and economics, alongside other administrative staff.
